How to Build Trust

Trust is hard to come by in relationships today however it is essential for a strong relationship. Without trust, a relationship falls off track and is basically destined for disaster.  In order to build trust in a relationship, you can try the following:

1. Be honest and truthful. Even small lies aren’t worth it because you will get caught. Once you get caught, this will make the other person believe you’re lying about other things. Just don’t do it.
2. Keep your word and be reliable. If you say you’re going to do something, go through with it. Don’t try to find excuses. The person in the relationship expects you to keep your promises. Once you start claiming you’ll do something but don’t- that’s when things usually begin to fall apart.
3. Set limitations and boundaries.  If you know something bothers your significant other then don’t do it.  Doing something that makes them uncomfortable such as flirting with others is usually never okay then keep it professional. Set limits as to how you come off to others outside your relationship. The person you’re with should be your priority.
4. You should trust your significant other unless they give you reasons to not trust them. Which is usually lying in the past. Don’t doubt them all the time, this will make them do the same thing back. It can be hard but you must try to believe what they say or tell you.
5. Don’t compare your current partner to your exes. Don’t say, “well, my ex used to do this and that.” First of all, everyone is a different person, you can’t believe everyone will have the same actions.
6. Trust yourself. You’ve chosen to be with this person, there is probably a strong reason for that. Start building a trust foundation based upon that.
